Get a $50 Echo Dot for 99 Cents with an Amazon Music Subscription

Echo Dot third generation
Amazon

If you’ve been thinking about subscribing to Amazon Music Unlimited, signing up for a one-month membership currently involves an offer where Amazon will sell you a third-generation Echo Dot for 99 cents (normally $50).

Amazon Music Unlimited is the company’s music streaming service. Pricing is set at $9.99 per month which grants unlimited access to more 50 million songs that can be streamed on devices such as your smartphone (or saved offline for when you don’t have a connection). That $9.99 monthly subscription is only $7.99 if you’re an Amazon Prime member.

Add 99 cents to whatever Amazon charges you for a month of its Music Unlimited service and you’ll also get a third-gen Echo Dot smart speaker with Alexa for voice-controlled interactions. Capabilities include streaming songs from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, and other services, as well as making hands-free voice calls from Echo device to Echo device.

Although your subscription to Amazon Music Unlimited will automatically renew after one month, The Verge notes that you could presumably cancel your subscription before it automatically renews and still keep the 99 cent Echo Dot. That would get you the $50 device for $10.98 without Amazon Prime and $8.98 with Amazon Prime. The Verge also mentioned that this deal doesn’t give you access to lossless streaming on Amazon Music HD—that costs $12.99 if you’re a Prime member and $14.99 if you’re not.

Of note, Spotify announced a similar deal a few days ago where anyone with a Spotify Premium Individual account or Premium Family account can request a free Google Home Mini (not the new Google Nest Mini). You can begin hands-free playback of Spotify music on the Google Home Mini by saying something like “Hey Google, play Disco Forever playlist on Spotify.”
