Here’s How to Play ‘The Outer Worlds’ on PC for $1

The Outer Wilds

Hailed by some critics as being the spiritual successor to Fallout, The Outer Worlds is a $60 action RPG from Obsidian Entertainment that you can play for only $1 if you sign up to Xbox Game Pass for PC.

Xbox Game Pass for PC is currently in beta and charges $4.99 a month to access a library of games that you can play for as long as you’re subscribed—a Netflix for PC games, if you will. The catalog currently includes more than 100 PC games and although The Outer Worlds was just released today, Microsoft is already offering the title through the service. Gears 5, Metro Exodus, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Wolfenstein II are among the 100+ titles available.

You can sign up here for Xbox Game Pass for PC. Note that the current price of $4.99 is an introductory rate that will eventually increase to $9.99, but the first month only costs $1. If you already subscribe to Xbox Game Pass on your console, it’s also worth mentioning that the Ultimate tier only costs $14.99 a month and includes Xbox Game Pass for PC, on your console, as well as Xbox Live Gold, which usually goes for $9.99 a month by itself.

The Outer Worlds has fared pretty strongly among reviewers on Metacritic where the PC version of the game has a critic score of 82/100 and a user score of 8.0/10. Described by Obsidian as being a single-player first-person sci-fi RPG, it’s no huge surprise to see players reporting that the world and gameplay are reminiscent of what you’d expect from a Fallout game considering the creators of Fallout, Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, happened to serve as directors for The Outer Worlds.
