It’s official: The Motorola Razr lives again. Available for preorder December 26, the iconic flip phone is back as a Verizon exclusive and has some new tricks up its sleeve—like a huge 6.2-inch folding display.

When folded, the new Razr resembles Motorola’s best-selling flip phone from the mid-2000s, but when flipped open it becomes a modern smartphone featuring a 6.2-inch pOLED display that touts a 21:9 cinematic aspect ratio and a resolution of 2142 x 876 pixels. When that primary display is folded, there’s a half-sized 2.7-inch gOLED screen on the outside of the phone (600 x 800 pixels for a 4:3 ratio) that gives quick access to options such as changing a song or taking a selfie.

Inside this Android 9 device, you’ll find a 2.2 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor, 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, a non-removable 2510 mAh battery with support for 15-watt quick charging, as well as a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. Verizon’s announcement for the phone talks a big game about its main camera, mentioning capabilities such as image stabilization, night captures, and artificial intelligence-boosted results.

Of note, the Razr lacks a standard SIM tray and instead uses a non-physical eSIM. Besides the mention of a water-resistant nanocoating, most of the other specifications are along the lines of what you would expect to see on a modern smartphone. Sensors include a fingerprint reader, accelerometer, magnetometer, gyro, proximity, ambient light, GPS, and ultrasonics, while connectivity includes USB 3.0 Type C, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

The billion dollar question here is whether there are enough benefits that come from having the display folded by default to outweigh the hassle of having to open the phone when you want to do more with it. Early hands-on reports indicate that when folded, the new Razr isn’t much thicker than a normal smartphone. When opened, the Razr measures 6.9mm thick and that only increases to 14mm when folded.

Available exclusively on Verizon’s network, preorders on the new Motorola Razr are scheduled to open on December 26 and it will arrive in stores on January 9. Pricing is set at a whopping $1,499.99, or if it makes your life easier, this slice of 2005 will be offered with two-year financing with monthly payments of $62.49. That price includes a premium pair of earbuds tuned by Denon AudioTM engineers.
